MUMBAI, India - December 14, 2011 - SunCarrier Omega Pvt. Ltd. announced the commissioning of India's first commercial Net-Zero Energy Building, at the Intersolar India 2011, Mumbai.
Speaking at the Intersolar Conference, Sushil Prakash, the Managing Director of SunCarrier Omega Pvt. Ltd. said, "The Net-Zero Energy Building, like the one we commissioned, is one of the very few across the world. We believe that the path to prosperity is for corporates to take environmentally responsible energy decisions for their operations. Commercially available technologies, can today, help corporates complement their energy requirements with sustainable renewable energy solutions, and this is an example of how organizations can implement such systems."
The SunCarrier Net-Zero Energy Building is an off-grid solar powered facility. Energy generated by the sun-tracking SunCarrier solar PV systems feeds the lighting and air-conditioning load for the building, while also charging the large capacity Cellcube vanadium redox flow battery and energy management system. The Cellcube provides adequate power at nights and on days when the solar power generation is inadequate.
In an energy-deficient India, buildings consume about 29% of all energy consumed. Net-Zero Energy Buildings are buildings where the energy requirement of the buildings are totally catered for from renewable energy sources. The SunCarrier Omega Net-Zero Energy Building is also a near-zero carbon emission building, that incorporates demand-side energy efficiencies, including daylighting for high utilization of natural lighting; LED lighting and occupancy monitoring sensors. The air conditioning system has ozone friendly refrigerant and carbon dioxide monitoring sensor system and low noise inverters.
Water harvesting system, controlled water discharge toilets, and sewage treatment with zero discharge ensure efficient usage of water. The furniture, too, is 95% recyclable.
