NEW DELHI, India - May2-3, 2011 - The 3rd Indo-German Energy Symposium "Cities & Energy" was jointly organized by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energies, Government of India, and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Federal Government of Germany, within the framework of the Indo-German Energy Forum.
The symposium was held in New Delhi on May 2-3, 2012, and addressed issues like Energy Efficiency in Cities, Promoting Solar PV Energy in Urban Areas, Solar Thermal Energy, Energy Finance, and Energy Concepts for Urban Development. The symposium was attended by officials of the respective ministries, regulators, energy experts, academicians and corporate leaders.
Addressing the august gathering, Sushil Prakash, the Managing Director of SunCarrier Omega Pvt. Ltd. presented a pioneering case study of India's first Net-Zero Energy Building. Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Energy efficient urban habitats are the need of the hour. Integrating supply-side energy management principals of renewable energy like solar, augmented with large capacity energy storage technologies of flow batteries, with demand-side efficiency measures, is a practical solution for sustainable habitats. The path to prosperity is for corporates to take environmentally responsible energy decisions; and commercially available technologies today can help corporates achieve this objective."
The SunCarrier Omega Net-Zero Energy Building is an off-grid solar powered facility. Energy generated by the sun-tracking SunCarrier solar PV systems feeds the lighting and air-conditioning load for the building, while also charging the large capacity Cellcube vanadium redox flow battery and energy management system. The Cellcube provides adequate power at nights and on days when the solar power generation is inadequate.
